TIA Startup Support Program

The Office of Technology and Industry Alliances (TIA) aims to help UC Santa Barbara startup companies thrive.

Startup Support

Our office maintains contacts with many angel and venture capital investors, nonprofit organizations, accounting and law firms and other startup-related service providers, and subject matter experts.  We also have access to several databases and services to help find connections.  We are happy to talk to you about our companies’ needs and connect you with potential resources, mentors, advisors and more. We also sponsor several events each year to help our startups network and learn. Please contact Sherylle Mills Englander if you would like to learn more about how our office can help your startup.

Our office also issues a monthly startup e-newsletter that highlight unique resources, upcoming events throughout California and informative articles, and maintains a startup listserv to communicate specific opportunities. To sign up for the startup newsletter and listserv, please contact Sherylle Mills Englander.

Eligibility

Anyone in the UCSB community who is considering starting up a company or who has already launched a new venture based on UCSB research is eligible for this program. Please feel free to contact us at any stage in your development about how we might work together to pursue your success.

Testimonials

The Startup Support Program of UCSB’s Office of Technology & Industry Alliances (TIA) has been unbelievably helpful to us at Next Energy Technologies. The Startup Support Program has assisted us from the very beginning as we spun out of UCSB. The program manager, Dina L. Lozofsky, has provided us support in a multitude of ways. Dina helped us polish our plans and presentations, she utilized her vast rolodex to make invaluable introductions not easily found for young startups, she kept us aware of networking and other great opportunities, and she provided us with advice and counseling. Dina has continued to keep her eyes out for us and serve as our UCSB team member. We are extremely grateful to the startup support program.

Corey V. Hoven, PhD Founder and CTO, Next Energy Technologies, Inc.

Thank you for all the advice you gave us over the past one and a half years. It’s really hard to find someone who has both hands-on startup experience and a willingness to listen, understand, and look out for the best interest of entrepreneurs. We are really lucky to have you to turn to for all the headaches (and there have been many).

Qiang (Jackson) Gong, PhD Founder, Aptitude Medical Systems, Inc.
